Esther Coombs - Unique and beautiful upcycled cermaics

Esther Coombs - UK based ceramist and illustrator

Esther Coombs is a practicing artist living and working in Hampshire, England. She creates the most beautiful but functional pieces of art by upcycling vintage crockery. After collecting discarded ceramics and glassware at car boot sales and charity shops, Esther draws directly onto them, giving them a new lease of life with her unique line-drawing illustration style. My favourite pieces that she creates are her cake stands made from tea cups, saucers and wine glasses - they are not only amazing to look at, but they would be perfect for an good old fashioned afternoon tea.

Scenes of the seaside, terraced houses, and biscuits, give Esther's work a wonderful nostalgic feel. Her illustrations of familiar places (the beach, the block of flats, the market town) and iconic buildings (The Royal Albert Hall, The Commonwealth institute buildings, The Barbican) combined with the backdrop of the sort of chintzy ceramics that you might have seen on your Aunt's side board or Grandfather's kitchen table, make her pieces feel like they could have been born from your own memories.

Esther has an Etsy shop where you can browse and shop till your hearts content.
