Category: My Artwork
I am slowly going through all my old illustrations, sorting out pictures I want to keep. I'll be honest, I haven't really looked after my artwork very well in the past and I don't really know where half the stuff is. I've got numerous folders on my computer, external hard-drives and DVD's. I've also got work stuffed in envelopes, a couple of portfolios underneath the bed, in boxes on shelves, and I've still got work stored at my parents home. It's a bit of a mess.
Anyway, this picture is taken from a series of images I had to produce whilst at university based around fairy tales. We had to pick a fairy tale and then set it in a decade of our choosing. I chose to illustrate the Frog Prince in the 1960's. I put most of the story against a backdrop of the moon (inspired by Neil Armstrong's 1960's moon landing). The twist comes at the end of the story where when the princess kisses the frog, instead of turning into a prince, he turns into an astronaut, and in the last scene (which is this image) they are seen riding off together on a Vespa scooter.
This was one my favourite pieces of work I had produce, and I still have fond memories of creating the images for this project. The best part was the sections of moon which were made by manipulating photographs of the moon on photoshop, then printing them on to acetate, pasting them on top of layers of newspaper painted in acrylic paints, scanning the whole thing onto the computer, and then printing them off again.
